Friedrich Schiller - Eine DichterjugendFriedrich Schiller - Eine Dichterjugend

Edition Filmmuseum 02

A silent film about the youth of the leading German 18th century dramatist, poet, and literary theorist Friedrich Schiller (1759-1805). In 1773 he had to leave home and spent miserable years under strict discipline at the military academy of The Duke Karl Eugen, which only strengthened his longing for freedom. His first play "The Robbers" (1781) spoke of the ideas of liberty and became a landmark in German theatrical. The Filmmuseum München has now carefully restored a film that for a long time was believed to be lost. Following the conventions of the silent movie era, the positive was tinted and furnished with two new piano scores.

Krieg und Frieden & Der KandidatKrieg und Frieden & Der Kandidat

Edition Filmmuseum 25

War and Peace: At the peak of the Cold War, the short-range missile crisis, neutron bombs could have potentially annihilated Central Europe. 300,000 protesters in Bonn. German Chancellor Schmidt resigns. Why make a film collage about war? "Nothing is more discouraging than not being able to see through a game on which your life hinges." The Candidate: Another film collage motivated by the election campaign for the German Bundestag in 1981, where Franz Josef Strauss sought the office of the chancellor. An institution in politics falters time and again because of the reality of the Federal Republic. "Getting to a place in the sun is not easy because once you are there, it has already set." Das Haus in MontevideoDas Haus in Montevideo

Edition Filmmuseum 15

The firmly rooted ethics of a very proper school "professor" are awfully tempted when his sister, the "black sheep" of the family, sends from her exile in Montevideo an offer for the oldest daughter, which is utterly immoral, thoroughly despicable, yet hard to refuse. Curt Goetz understood how to write comedy and how to play the parts to perfection. His film was the top hit of early post-war German cinema. The beautifully restored original version is added by an interview with Valerie von Martens, co-director, main actress and wife of Curt Goetz.

The Other WeimarThe Other Weimar

Edition Filmmmuseum Collection 2

German silent cinema from Das Cabinet des Dr. Caligari to the coming of the talkies is one of the most celebrated eras in film history. But the corpus of Weimar cinema, as generally viewed, consists only some "classic" directors and masterpieces which suit Kracauer's psycho-sociological perspective, and Eisner's essentially Romantic view of German art history. This collection presents newly rediscovered and meticulously restored films of less known German filmmakers such as Robert Reinert, Richard Oswald, Curt Goetz, Hanns Walter Kornblum, Fritz Freisler, Zoltan Korda, Hugo Rütters and Ella Bergmann-Michel. All films are meticulously restored from the best surviving material. Information about the films and the filmmakers are documented in the booklets, ROM features and film essays. Seven DVD's for a special price.
